All members are required to read, sign, and abide by these rules before participating in any KWR activity.
1. Overview & Inclusivity Statement
Killer Watt Racing (KWR) is committed to being a fully inclusive team, open to all genders,
backgrounds, abilities, and identities. We believe that motorsport is for everyone, and we
actively work to create an environment where every member — regardless of who they are or
where they come from — can compete, contribute, and thrive. Diversity makes our team stronger,
and inclusion is not just a value we hold; it is a standard we uphold in everything we do.
KWR is an inclusive motorsport team open to any class of competition and any skilled participant.
All members (drivers, riders, crew, staff, and volunteers) are bound by KWR's policies whenever
they represent the team — at events, in team gear, or online. Our core values
are professionalism, respect, safety, and sportsmanship. Members must always
act in ways that reflect well on KWR, its sponsors, and motorsport. Breaches of conduct can lead
to disciplinary action (up to removal from the team), and may also be reported to racing authorities.
2. Liability Waiver & Assumption of Risk
By joining KWR, each participant agrees to a comprehensive waiver
releasing KWR and related parties from liability. The waiver will state that
"Motor Racing is dangerous, and accidents can and do happen." Members assume all risks
of personal injury or death, "whether caused by the negligence of the [team] or otherwise."
In practice, the waiver mirrors standard race-event forms: participants "release, waive, discharge
and covenant not to sue" KWR, its organizers, sponsors, and affiliates for any harm arising from
team activities. Members acknowledge they have inspected their vehicles and gear:
each driver or rider affirms the vehicle is safe and race-ready.
This waiver (required before any track activity) ensures participants understand they are responsible
for personal safety and cannot hold KWR liable for on-track incidents.
3. Membership and Sponsorship Agreement
Every KWR member signs a membership agreement confirming they will follow team
rules and update KWR on outside commitments. If a member has personal sponsors,
their sponsor contracts must be compatible with KWR's interests. In particular, members must
honor sponsor exclusivity: they may not endorse or display any product that
conflicts with a KWR sponsor without approval.
All promotional activities (logos on leathers, helmets, social media posts about sponsors, etc.)
must comply with both KWR's branding guidelines and the sponsor's terms. For example,
a typical racing sponsorship contract prohibits any team member (including drivers and riders)
from endorsing a competitor's product without written consent. Members must coordinate sponsor
obligations through KWR management so there are no conflicts.
4. Code of Conduct & Values
KWR's Code of Conduct requires all members to act professionally, ethically, and lawfully at all
times. Key points include:
Professional Representation
Members must always represent the team and our sport in a professional manner. This means following
the rules of competition and team policy (no cheating; obey marshals and officials, etc.), and
treating everyone with courtesy. Members should support the team image positively — whether in
competition or wearing team gear.
Respect & Fairness
We demand respect for all participants. Abusive, derogatory, or hateful language
is forbidden. Harassment or discrimination based on any of the following is
grounds for sanctions:
Race or ethnicity
Gender or gender identity
Age
Disability
Pregnancy or parental status
Religion or belief
Nationality
Sexual orientation
Socioeconomic background
This applies on-track, in the pits, in public, and online. KWR explicitly prohibits bullying,
harassment, or hateful content by any member on social media or in person. Any comment "bringing
the sport into disrepute" involving protected categories may lead to severe disciplinary action.
Team Spirit
Members should act as positive role models. Offer encouragement to teammates and competitors alike —
whether drivers, riders, or crew. Celebrate others' successes and accept officials' decisions
gracefully. Any conduct that tarnishes the team's professional image or violates sportsmanship
(e.g. unsportsmanlike behavior, fighting, dangerous conduct, etc.) is not allowed.
Integrity
Members must comply with all laws and competition rules. Use of illegal performance-enhancing drugs
or alcohol while representing KWR (at races, test sessions, meetings, or official events) is
strictly prohibited. KWR will follow all relevant doping and safety regulations. Driving or riding
under the influence or on illegal substances will result in immediate suspension and likely expulsion.
KWR members must read and acknowledge these standards. Failure to follow the Code of Conduct can
result in warnings, suspension of racing licenses, removal from events, fines, or expulsion from
the team.
5. Health & Safety Rules
Safety is paramount. KWR members must strictly follow all track and event safety regulations,
plus these team guidelines:
Mandatory Safety Gear
All drivers and riders must wear appropriate, approved protective equipment at events. This includes
a certified helmet (full-face helmets with integrated chin-bar for open-cockpit vehicles),
flame-resistant racing suit, gloves, underwear, balaclava, socks, and shoes meeting FIA or
equivalent standards. Helmets must meet recognized standards (e.g. Snell or FIA-approved) and
must not be modified or worn without the chin strap fastened.
Vehicle Safety
Each driver or rider is responsible for their vehicle's condition. Before any event, conduct a
complete safety check. Installations (seat belts/harnesses, roll cages, fire suppression, etc.)
must meet the rules of the event. Participants "assume full responsibility for the preparation and
safety of the vehicle," confirming the kart, car, or bike is mechanically sound and fit for racing.
Track Rules
During practice, qualifying, or races, obey all track rules. This includes no
reckless driving or intentional contact (unless allowed in a contact class). Always obey flag
signals and marshals' instructions: a yellow flag means slow/stopped (incident ahead), red means
stop the session, etc. Follow pit lane rules (walking pace, no overtaking) and venue regulations.
If a warning flag or black flag is shown, respond immediately.
Pit and Paddock
In the pit area: helmet on in pit lane if under power, never exceed walking speed,
and keep the pit area tidy to avoid tripping hazards. No fuel or grease on the floor. KWR will
provide safety briefings for new members covering emergency procedures (fire, spills, crashes).
Report any injury or unsafe condition to team safety officers immediately.
Health & Fitness
Members must be physically and mentally fit to safely operate the vehicle.
Fatigue, illness, or impairment (drugs/alcohol) is not allowed on duty. No racing or riding under
the influence. Any prescription medication should be cleared with a physician for safety and checked
against the competition's banned substances list.
KWR welcomes adaptive athletes and para-motorsport participants. Any accommodations
required for safe participation should be discussed with team management prior to the event so that
appropriate support can be arranged.
Injury and Incident Reporting
If you sustain or witness an injury, report it promptly to KWR management. We will coordinate
medical care and notify sanctioning officials as needed. On-track incidents (spin-outs, collisions)
should be reported so we can assist and learn to improve safety.
By following these precautions, we minimize risk. Remember that even with all care taken, accidents
happen — so personal responsibility and vigilance are crucial.
6. Brand Representation & Team Gear
Whenever a member is in KWR-branded apparel or speaking as a team representative, they are
"on duty". KWR's branding (logo, colors, sponsors) must be used only as authorized.
Team Apparel
Drivers, riders, and crew should wear official KWR uniforms, suits, jackets, or caps at races and
public events. Team colors and logos should be displayed clearly and correctly. Do not alter logos
or mix them improperly with other brands without permission. If a member's personal sponsor has
decals on the car, bike, or gear, these must coexist tastefully with KWR/sponsor logos per the
team's style guide.
Professional Image
Even off-track, wearing KWR kit means you are representing the team. The KWR Code of Conduct
applies any time a member is in team clothing. A member in KWR gear at a public gathering should
behave just as professionally as on race day.
Conflicts of Interest
Members must avoid activities that could harm KWR's brand. Do not solicit personal sponsors that
compete with KWR sponsors. Any advertising or publicity done as a KWR member should not contradict
team commitments. If uncertain whether a personal opportunity conflicts with KWR interests, consult
team management first.
In summary, wearing the KWR brand is a privilege: members should always uphold
the team's reputation while in KWR colors.
7. Media & Publicity Guidelines
KWR drivers, riders, and staff are often seen as public figures. To protect everyone's interests,
all media interactions should follow these rules:
Authorized Spokespersons
Only designated team spokespeople may speak on behalf of KWR. If a journalist contacts you about
team business, refer them to the KWR media representative. Unless explicitly authorized, never
give official comments in the team's name. It is better to politely decline than risk
misrepresenting the team.
Interviews & Requests
If you are invited to an interview or event, coordinate with the team's media/PR staff. Be honest
but cautious: share personal experiences if asked, but avoid confidential technical details or
unverified claims. If asked a sensitive question, you may say:
"I'm not the best person to answer that — please check with KWR for an official response."
Public Appearances
When appearing in public with KWR branding, remember you represent the team. Behave respectfully,
follow any sponsor or venue rules, and be mindful of your language and conduct. If a controversial
topic arises unexpectedly, it is acceptable to refrain from comment.
Media Training
KWR will provide guidance or training (especially for new members) on media skills and handling
interviews. Knowing how to stay on message and be professional under pressure is part of
representing KWR's image.
8. Social Media & Online Conduct
Team members' online presence must be managed carefully. KWR requires stricter standards
than general social media terms of service. The guiding principle is: assume everything you post
is public and reflective of KWR.
Personal Responsibility
You are personally responsible for the content you post on social media platforms. Always consider
the impact of your posts on yourself, teammates, sponsors, the team, and the wider motorsport
community. Think: Would this reflect well on KWR? If in doubt, don't post.
Respect & Race With Respect
KWR expects all members to uphold the sport's "Race with Respect" values. This means
no harassment or hate speech online. Any form of bullying, discrimination, or
abusive language — toward competitors, officials, media, or fans — is strictly forbidden.
Remember that even reposting or liking problematic content can be seen as endorsement. Deleting
a post does not absolve responsibility — discipline can still follow.
Privacy Settings
To limit risk, set personal accounts to high privacy. KWR recommends members review their accounts
regularly to ensure only trusted followers can see posts. Even so, assume nothing is truly private
once it's online.
No Confidential Information
Never share internal or sensitive team information on social media. Do not post details of vehicle
setups, strategy, or private conversations. Likewise, do not post photos or videos of teammates or
staff without their consent.
Content Accuracy
If posting race results or team news, double-check accuracy before sharing. Avoid spreading rumors
or unverified claims about the team or other competitors. Share content responsibly — misinformation
can damage your credibility and the team's reputation. If you're excited after an event, take time
before venting; refrain from posting impulsive or emotionally charged content immediately after an
intense situation, such as an on-track incident.
Consulting Management
When in doubt about a social post or interaction, consult your team manager or KWR
officials first. It's better to get approval than to remove a viral post later.
By following these social media rules, KWR members help maintain the team's positive image online.
Remember: you are an ambassador 24/7.
9. Disciplinary Actions
Violations of any rule (safety, conduct, media, or sponsor obligations) may lead to sanctions.
These can range from verbal warnings and required retraining, to suspension from races or
termination of team membership. Serious breaches (abuse of officials, hate speech, etc.) can
result in international bans and heavy fines. KWR will document infractions and apply penalties
consistently.
Safety Violations: If a driver or rider repeatedly endangers others
(e.g. intentional contact, ignoring red flags), they can be dropped from the entry list or
removed from the team.
Harassment/Discrimination: Any confirmed instance of harassment (online or
in person) will lead to immediate suspension pending review. Severe cases will be reported
to motorsport authorities and law enforcement.
Social Media Misconduct: Inappropriate posts that violate this policy may
lead to loss of sponsorships, removal from team social profiles, fines, or termination.
Members are reminded that deleting a post does not absolve responsibility.
Sponsor Conflicts: Taking on a conflicting sponsorship or publicly disparaging
a sponsor can be a breach of contract. KWR reserves the right to terminate membership to
protect contractual obligations.
All members must sign an acknowledgment that they have read and will abide by these rules before
participating. New drivers, riders, and crew members will be briefed on safety and media protocols
at their first event. Regular reminders and updates to the handbook will be issued as needed.
10. Best Practices & Recommendations
To uphold these standards, KWR will:
Educate all members on safety gear (helmets, suits, HANS devices, etc.) and
conduct policies during orientation.
Provide Media Guidance, including workshops on interviews and social media, so
drivers, riders, and crew know how to handle tough questions and maintain confidentiality.
Review Agreements Annually: Update the waiver and rulebook each year, and have
members re-sign. Many established teams and clubs revise rules to reflect legal changes and new
technologies.
Maintain Transparency: Keep the rulebook easily accessible on the team website
so members can review policies at any time.
Encourage Open Communication: Maintain clear channels (team meetings, email,
Slack/Discord) where members can ask questions about rules or report concerns confidentially.
By following this comprehensive rulebook — inspired by industry best practices — Killer Watt Racing
ensures a safe, fair, and respected team environment. Our members will compete and behave in ways
that advance everyone's enjoyment of the sport and protect the KWR legacy.
